This is the design of a seat called "Ceremony" by Lu Yi. Through structural innovation, this stool reduces the application of materials, resulting in a more sustainable and efficient design. The seat's form language incorporates the charm and characteristics of oriental culture, making it a unique piece.
The "Ceremony" stool is crafted using traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joint technology, which ensures a sturdy and durable construction. The bench surface and legs are carved using CNC digital control machines, followed by meticulous manual polishing. The material of choice for this design is walnut or black walnut, and the digital production process involves the use of a 3D virtual model.
With dimensions of 400mm in width, 320mm in depth, and 430mm in height, the "Ceremony" stool offers a compact yet comfortable seating solution.
The user can easily assemble the stool and enjoy its functionality. Primarily designed for sitting, it provides a comfortable space for activities such as drinking tea or engaging in conversations.
The "Ceremony" stool is a completely new and unseen design, created by Lu Yi in Madrid in November 2022. It draws inspiration from China's rich etiquette and civilization, particularly from the Book of Rites - The Moon Order, which emphasizes treating each other with courtesy. This concept, along with its minimalist lines, sets this stool apart and makes it a truly unique piece.
The design of the "Ceremony" stool presented several challenges. The main objective was to find a technical solution that could seamlessly merge aesthetics, comfort, and sustainability. By using fewer materials, the stool maximizes its functionality while maintaining its visual appeal.
The "Ceremony" stool has been recognized for its exceptional design and has been awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2023. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The "Ceremony" stool stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
